The goals of the French Program are:
- to have fun learning a new language
- to familiarize children with the phonetics of French
- to learn a variety of basic, day to day vocabulary
French will be taught through the use of song, board games, computer programs, books, stories, verse and rhymes. Children will learn vocabulary by associating words with objects (props), using touch and sound. We have also implemented the ‘A.I.M. Language Learning’ (Accelerative Integrated Method) approach throughout the French program.
The main goal of the A.I.M. Language Learning program is to ‘ensure that the children are able to express themselves; while they develop a love of language learning’.
The children express themselves by using ‘Gestures’.
The Gestures are a form of nonverbal communication that promotes memory retention and receptivity to the subject.
The Gestures are used in a variety of ways;
- to teach words;
- to call a word and/or it’s meaning;
- as an aid of expression; if a student forgets a word;
- to review a substantial quantity of vocabulary within a limited time frame.
‘Gestures’ are taught along with flash cards while teaching the children their monthly Vocabulary Words and monthly Keywords.
The children will be given instruction in small groups in a separate classroom where a relaxed atmosphere will be ensured.
The children should associate French with fun; the goal will be to provide a non-competitive atmosphere with no pressure on the child to perform. Children are never forced to speak French and are encouraged and rewarded with smiles and praise. A French Newsletter is sent home each month listing the entire vocabulary and songs that your child will be learning during their French lessons.It is our goal to keep all current and future parents informed of all school news.
