I Spy is a really easy and simple game that is also very educational for kids. I spy develops the powers of observation, expands vocabulary, and can be used to teach young children about letters, names, shapes, and objects. It’s a fun way to pass the time, and works for various ages.
Most of us know the simple version of the game where we say “I spy with my little eye, something that is….”. Once your family has mastered that version, you can change it up with a few of these variations as well:
- “I spy something that rhymes with…”
- “I spy something that is round/square/flat etc.”
- “I spy something that starts with the letter…”
- “I spy something that starts with the sound “KA” (as in “K” or “C”), or whatever sound you choose ; )
There are endless possibilities, so feel free to get creative. You can choose a smell (i.e. stinky, fresh, etc.), Noises, incorporate numbers, etc.
Best of all, because this is a call and response game, you do not need any tools and you can play anywhere and anytime.
