Did you know that full-day Kindergarten is not mandatory in Ontario? Here are some handy points to help parents understand the benefits and opportunities of starting a child with half-day or morning-only Kindergarten.
- It is the child’s first school/classroom experience outside of the home.
- Your family would like to have more time with your child at home before they enter full-day Senior Kindergarten or Grade One.
- The child has a September – December birthday, so they are on the younger side when the school year begins.
- The child is younger and still naps during the day or is accustomed to downtime in the afternoon.
- Only a snack needs to be sent to school because lunchtime happens at home.
- Families still have the option to increase to a full-day Senior Kindergarten program the following year.
